Prefabricated timber house construction on rails

Prefabricated construction is an economical, eco-friendly alternative to conventional building methods and as such is making a growing contribution to accelerating the construction of new residential, commercial and public buildings. In view of the increasing demand for modular buildings, Baumgarten has decided to expand its production capacities.

Baumgarten can manufacture up to 600 3-D modules for residential and commercial buildings annually using the one-piece flow process with transport on LOXrail tracks and trolleys

Added space for an added dimension

Baumgarten’s new factory hall, officially opened in June 2024, has significantly expanded the company’s 3-D production capacity. Previously, Baumgarten had mainly produced and delivered 2-D modules. The new hall provides 3300 square meters of space for manufacturing these into 3-D modules, which are delivered directly to construction sites. The new hall has a capacity for up to 600 such quasi-turnkey modules annually.

Project highlights:

  • Six floor-level LOXrail tracks
  • Parallel rail installation over a length of 95 meters
  • Low-height transport trolleys function as mobile assembly stations

Flowing production

We implemented production logistics based on our LOXrail system to ensure smoothly flowing processes. Depending on the required works, the construction modules pass through four to ten assembly stations at 3-hour intervals before the completed modules are picked up at the end of the line by an indoor crane. The modules are up to 12 meters long and weigh up to 20 tons. Our intra-logistics specialists installed six LOXrail tracks with steel rail shafts with a diameter of 25 mm, spanning a distance of 95 meters each. The tracks sit snugly in the hall floor, so the conveyor system is no obstacle for staff, industrial trucks, mobile shelves or cleaning machines. The robust, low-wear design ensures long-lasting operation and is resistant to contamination and easy to clean.

Easy handling

The construction modules are transported manually on easy-to-handle trolleys. We built a total of 100 customized trolleys with a load capacity of 5 tons. Each of them travels on two tracks. At only 188 mm high, the transport platforms ensure barrier-free accessibility to the building modules from all sides. We also created a way to manually return the trolleys without additional conveyors. For this purpose, handles and wheels are attached to the sides of the 70-kg trolleys, so one person can easily pull and steer them to the start of the line.

This is what the user says:

“The price–performance ratio and highly flexible handling of the LOXrail system convinced us. We can now move construction modules in various sizes through the flow production line in a very user-friendly way. We experienced the project planning and implementation with LOSYCO as very cooperative, goal-oriented and on schedule.”
